Arriving by coach at Piazza Venezia with its impressive monument “Il Vittoriano”, dedicated to King Victor Emanuel II and the unknown soldier, you then continue by foot to the Capitolium, the most sacred hill of ancient Rome and now the site of the City Hall. We will reach a wonderful square designed by Michelangelo, a perfect example of the harmony of the Renaissance.
From here you will have a fantastic view of the Roman Forum and Coliseum. The Roman Forum is the political, commercial and religious centre of ancient Rome. It is a unique experience to walk among the imposing ruins of the Triumphal Arches, the Basilicas and the Temples. Along the way you will discover the historical and political significance of the Forum. What may first appear as haphazard ruins will come alive during your walk through the heart of Ancient Rome.
The tour will be completed with a visit to the imposing Coliseum, one of the most important monuments of the ancient world and the largest Roman amphitheatre ever built. Here thousands of gladiators and wild beasts died.

After breakfast we reach the entrance of the Vatican Museums for the guided visit of the richest collection of antiquities in the world.
Among the treasures that you will visit are the famous sculpture of the Laoocoon, the Raphael Rooms (part of the private papal apartment of Pope Julius II) and the astonishing Sistine Chapel, frescoed by Michelangelo and thought to be the largest body of painting executed solely by one artist, considered the greatest masterpiece of Western Art. Arriving at St. Peter’s Square, the visitor is immediately impressed by the size of the memorable square facing St. Peter’s, surrounded by the magnificent four-row colonnade masterpiece of Gian Lorenzo Bernini.
Only when one gets inside the basilica, slowly climbing up the sweeping three flights of steps designed by Bernini, one will be truly amazed by the size and splendour of the largest church in the world, the symbol of Christianity, extending over a total of about 22,000 sqm. It is possible to reach the top of the Cupola climbing 330 steps: once up there the view of the square below and of Rome is unforgettable.
The church contains the masterpieces of important artists: the 29 m. high bronze baldachin by Bernini, the Pietà by Michelangelo, the tomb of Clement XIII by Canova and the mosaic of the Navicella by Giotto, located above the middle entrance to the Portico. Free time for lunch.
In the afternoon our local guide will take you on a pleasant stroll through the historical centre, where you can admire the Trevi Fountain, where, to ensure your coming back to Rome, you can’t miss throwing a coin in the water, the Colonna of Marco Aurelio, Palazzo di Montecitorio, designed by Bernini, the Pantheon (visit inside) the best conserved Roman temple and a symbol of the western architecture, Palazzo Madama - seat of the senate, and Piazza Navona decorated with the famous River Fountain, a masterpiece of the Baroque style designed by Bernini. In the morning after breakfast we return to the Vatican for the Papal audience. Free time for lunch and in the afternoon visit Trastevere.
After you have seen the Colosseum and the Vatican, take a break from the crowds, escape the traffic and explore the back streets of the historic centre that most tourists do not even know exist. Join us on a leisurely stroll through the Jewish Ghetto and Trastevere area, starting from Largo Argentina and the Senate House where Julius Caesar was murdered, finishing at Campo de’ Fiori, once the site of executions during the Inquisition, one of today’s most lively piazzas. On this tour you will get a chance to see the hidden ancient city below the modern street level, and as Rome was not built in a day, a little bit of every time period in between, from Medieval to Renaissance to Baroque.
