This fabulous structure was built by Guru Arjan, the fifth Sikh guru, in the 16th century.Guru Granth Sahib, the holy scripture of Sikhism, was completed in 1604.The Golden Temple consists of four entrances which is a symbol of its openness and acceptance of people belonging to different religions, creeds and beliefs. There is an enormous water tank or reservoir surrounding the gurudwara known as Sarovar. Its water is considered to be holy and believed to possess magical and healing properties. The Golden Temple also hosts several festivals throughout the year like Baisakhi, birth of Guru Ram Das, martyrdom of Guru Teg Bahadur and Diwali. After seeking blessings and enjoying the relaxed and calm atmosphere inside the temple
Than we head over to Jallianwala Bagh, one of the most famous tourist attractions of Punjab. It is a memorial built in the memory of Indians who lost their lives in the massacre carried out by General Dyer on 13th April, 1919.This happened on the occasion of Baisakhi, one of the most popular festivals in Punjab. On this day, General Dyer ordered his soldiers to open fire on innocent and unarmed men, women and children inside the garden, without so much as a prior warning.Trapped by the walled enclosures on all sides, hundreds were killed immediately while others jumped inside a well to save their lives. It was one of the most unfortunate episodes in India’s history, and an extreme example of the inhuman and brutal policies pursued by the British Raj.

It bears a strong resemblance to the Golden Temple and is very famous among the Hindus in Punjab. The presiding deity of this temple is Goddess Durga and the temple is also named after her. It is also known as Laxmi Narayan Temple. Just like the Golden Temple, it stands in the middle of the lake. The similarities also extend to its domes and canopies as well as the bridge which leads to the temple.A particular attraction inside the temple are its silver doors. Major festivals like Janmashtami, Ram Navami and Diwali are celebrated enthusiastically inside the temple.
